The best AI rank tracking tools in 2026: tracking your position in ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI Overviews

Seven AI rank trackers compared on engine coverage, prompt limits, tracking cadence, and what they show beyond rank. Plan details from each vendor's published pricing.

"AI rank tracking" is a slightly odd phrase, because AI engines don't return a ranked list of links. They write an answer and name a few brands in it, in some order. Tracking your "rank" means recording, prompt by prompt and engine by engine, whether you were named, where in the answer, and who came before you.

Every tool on this list does that. What separates them is which engines they cover, how many prompts you get, how often they check, and whether they can tell you why your position changed. We build VisibilyRanking, so we rank it first; for the others we only used published plan details from our tool notes.

What to look for in an AI rank tracker

  • Engine coverage. ChatGPT and AI Overviews are table stakes. Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, and Meta AI are often gated behind higher tiers.
  • Real prompts. Prompts that mirror how buyers ask beat prompts modeled from keyword lists.
  • Cadence. Answers move. Weekly tracking can hide a drop for days.
  • The why. A rank without the cited pages and crawler data behind it is hard to act on.

1. VisibilyRanking

VisibilyRanking records which brands each engine names, in what order, for every tracked prompt, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Meta AI, and Google AI Overviews. Prompts are grouped by topic, persona, and country, so you can see that you rank second for agency buyers in the US but don't appear for the same question in Germany.

Rank is only the first column, though. When a position drops, the citation view shows which pages the engine leaned on, the crawler logs show whether its bot could reach yours, and traffic attribution shows whether the drop cost you visits. There's no self-serve trial; you start with a demo on your own prompts.

2. Promptwatch

Promptwatch runs all its tracked AI models on every paid plan, and adds search volumes, difficulty scores, and query fan-outs per prompt, which helps decide which positions are worth fighting for. It also has prompt trends that show how a prompt's rankings move between checks. Essential is $95/mo for 50 prompts; Professional is $245/mo for 150 prompts across two projects. Country-level tracking is on every paid plan, with state and city tracking from Business.

3. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ's Starter plan ($295/mo) covers 11 models with unlimited prompts, topics, and competitors, paid in credits: 3,600 a month, one per AI response. More prompts on more models means faster credit use. It's country-level on Starter; multi-region is Enterprise.

4. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar comes in two parts. Custom Prompts are included with paid Ahrefs plans, with a daily quota of 5, 10, or 20 prompts by plan, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Claude. The AI Visibility Index ($199/mo, or $699/mo for all models) is a pre-collected set of 496M+ prompts retested monthly, which is useful for research but less precise than tracking your own prompt list.

5. Semrush AI Toolkit

The AI Toolkit costs $99/mo per domain for five engines, 25 prompts, and one user. Extra prompts are $60/mo per 50. It's convenient if you already rank-track in Semrush, but 25 prompts is a small sample for most brands.

6. Gauge

Gauge's selling point is volume and cadence: Growth ($599/mo) runs 600 prompts daily, about 54,000 answers a month, on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Copilot. If those three engines are your priority, that's a lot of data. If you need Claude or Gemini, check the Enterprise plan.

7. LLM Pulse

LLM Pulse covers five engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overviews) on every plan, from €49/mo for 50 prompts. Tracking is weekly by default, with daily tracking at a higher price.

Which one fits

If you just want to know whether you're named on a few dozen prompts, a lighter tracker will do. If your rank is a number you'll be asked to move, choose a tool that explains the movement, not only records it.

Book a VisibilyRanking demo and we'll show your current position on your buyers' prompts across all eight engines.
